18ct Yellow Gold Flange Cleopatra Necklet 79.2g
This Striking necklet, crafted in rich 18ct yellow gold, is an exquisite example of the ''Egyptian Revival'' style that captivated fashion and jewellery design in the mid-20th century. Inspired by the 1963 film Cleopatra starring Elizabeth Taylor, and further propelled by the international 1970s touring exhibition of King Tutankhamun's tomb, this period witnessed a resurgence of fascination with ancient Egyptian motifs and opulence.
The necklet features a bold flange design reminiscent of regal Egyptian adornments, embodying the grandeur and exoticism associated with Cleopatra herself. On the clasp a french owl hallmark is visible, an owl viewed from the front framed within an oval, indicating that the piece was imported into France and assayed for gold content of 18ct (750/1000). This owl hallmark has been in use since 1893 and is typically applied to foreign-made gold items sold in France.
Further information on this hallmark along with other French assay and maker;s marks, can be found through Ospery Paris, Specialists in fine antique jewellery. Marc Fieggen is a noted expert in French hallmarks and antique jewellery.
