Black Enamel 1865 Pearl and Diamond Mourning Ring in 18ct Yellow Gold
A deeply meaningful piece of Victorian history, this 1865 mourning ring is a beautiful example of sentimental jewellery from the era. At its centre sits a natural diamond, delicately surrounded by four pearls, symbolising remembrance and purity. The cluster is framed with black enamel edging, creating a striking contrast that reflects the traditional mourning jewellery style of the 19th century.
Crafted in 18ct yellow gold, the band carries the touching inscription “In Memory Of” across the top, highlighted with black enamel, while the back of the band also features black enamel detailing with the lettering left in 18ct yellow gold. The popularity of mourning jewelry reached its peak during the Victorian era (1837-1901). Queen Victoria was deeply in love with her husband, Prince Albert, and when he died in 1861, she fell into a long depression. Queen Victoria spent much of the next four decades wearing black crepe dresses and mourning jewelry.
